Pilot Warm-up Events at Kythera and Konitsa, Greece

Build Your Smart Village” Greek Pilot Leader MedINA introduces the Smart Village concept through an interactive game

As part of its role in leading the INSPIRE pilot in Kythera and Konitsa in Greece, MedINA has developed an innovative interactive game titled “Build Your Smart Village”. The game aims to introduce the concept of Smart Villages to local communities in a simple, engaging, and accessible way.

The board game includes six thematic categories in sustainable and participatory governance, each represented by action cards featuring smart, collective, and innovative initiatives. Participants are invited to select the actions they consider most relevant for their area and to suggest their own ideas. This interactive process not only sparks dialogue and creativity but also helps gather valuable insights into community needs and priorities. These insights are essential for eventually creating local Smart Village Labs that reflect local realities and respond to real challenges.

The game was first used during a warm-up event in Kythera on Sunday, 14 September, where residents showed strong interest and actively participated. They exchanged information about local activities, highlighted similar initiatives already taking place, and proposed new ideas for the island’s future. The event closed with participants receiving informational material about the project while conversations about the project’s activities and purpose continued in an open and positive atmosphere

A second warm-up event followed in Konitsa on Saturday, 27 September, during the Transboundary River Forum concert organized by MedINA. This event created a lively and interactive opportunity to raise awareness of the project, encourage exchange of ideas, and build connections with the community.

Together, these two events marked the launch of the INSPIRE warm-up activities in Greece, helping to introduce the Smart Village concept and to stimulate meaningful dialogue with local communities.
